Having good neighbours can make your domestic life much easier – but it can turn into a nightmare when you’re surrounded by inconsiderate ones.
Negative neighbours can vary from being nosy and loud to downright disrespectful or even violent. But one young woman was left astonished by her neighbour’s reaction after her reasonable request was rebuffed.
The 18-year-old woman messaged the neighbour to ask that he keep his dog from using her garden as a toilet. But his response unnerved her so that she felt the need to seek advice online.
She shared screenshots of their text conversation on the popular Reddit forum, Am I Overreacting?, where she explained the situation. The woman said she had asked him to prevent his pitbull, named Bruno – a breed banned in the UK, although the location of the incident is unknown – from relieving itself in her garden, reports the Express.
She wrote alongside the screenshot: “This is not a conversation between adults, we’re young adults. I was frustrated and texted him about it and this is the attitude.
“I’m so done. It’s my first time living alone, is this normal or am I overreacting?” In her initial message, sent at 1am, she said: “Hello, I’m [redacted]. I’ve already mentioned Bruno using my front yard as a toilet to you, but you seem to be taking no action?
“Please train him or keep him within your boundaries.” Her neighbour’s response was less than polite, filled with expletives. He retorted: “At 1am midnight for f***s sake. You sound like he’s doing it NOW.”
The neighbour then added a puzzling question: “Why the f*** you so polite for? We’re almost the same age” and went on to say: “And, I’VE ALREADY told you I’LL clean it. It’s not my problem that you clean it before I do.
“This s*** ain’t a f***ing competition. It’s something so silly what the f*** are you getting so worked up for???”
‘I can’t just let it be dirty for weeks’
In her reply, the young woman apologised for the late hour of her complaint but stood firm, saying: “I apologise for the ungodly hour I brought this up. I prefer my front yard with no dog s***.
“I clean it because you refuse to do it on time. I can’t just let it be dirty for weeks.
“The last time I waited for almost a WEEK before I did it myself. When were you even planning to do that? It’s gross and it stinks.
“He did this evening and I’ll have to clean it up because WHEN WILL YOU??” Her neighbour shot back, calling her “so dramatic” and sent a flurry of messages.
He replied: “Well clean it up yourself if you’re so impatient. I can’t train him, he’s too aggressive, bear with it. Don’t text me about this s*** anymore or I’m f***ing blocking you. Nosy overdramatic b****”.
Shocked by the exchange, the woman turned to online strangers for advice. One commenter suggested: “Get a shovel and loft the dog’s poop onto his roof.”
Another concurred: “Front porch so he steps in it when he walks out. Every time.” A third person chimed in, suggesting: “And if he complains, send him a screenshot of his own text that says ‘nosy overdramatic b****’ or ‘it’s something so silly what the f*** you getting so worked up for’.”
Other commenters recommended she report him to the relevant authorities. Many raised concern over his aggressive tone, as well as the dog fouling.
