Livingston MP Gregor Poynton welcomed pupils and teachers from West Calder High School to the UK Parliament as part of their educational visit to Westminster.

The visit, organised through the UK Parliament’s Education and Engagement Team, gave students the opportunity to learn more about democracy, politics, and the role of MPs.

During a Q&A session in the Education Centre, Gregor spoke with the students about his work representing the Livingston constituency in Westminster and answered their questions about the political process.

Gregor said: “It was a pleasure to meet with the pupils and teachers from West Calder High School and hear their thoughts on politics and democracy.

“Visits like these are a great way for young people to see Parliament in action, ask questions about how decisions are made, and understand the role of MPs in representing their communities.

“I’d encourage all schools across the Livingston constituency to take advantage of the fantastic opportunities offered by the UK Parliament’s Education Team. It’s a brilliant experience that brings democracy to life and helps inspire the next generation of engaged citizens.”

Patrick Clarke of West Calder High School added: “A highlight for many of our pupils was the chance to meet their MP, Gregor Poynton, who took the time to answer their questions and talk to us about his experiences in parliament and the constituency.

“Our pupils from West Calder High School thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the parliament. The tour and experience at the education centre was fascinating and informative.

“We enjoyed the opportunity to visit Westminster Hall and experience debates in both the House of Commons and the Lords.”
