Bell and Roker were married from 1984 to 1994. During the early 1980s, they both worked at WNBC, where Bell produced the network’s “Live at Five” newscast. Roker was the weatherman at the station.

In 1987, they adopted Courtney as their daughter. When she gave birth to Sky Clara Laga in July 2023, Roker became a grandfather for the first time.

Bell was a New York native who graduated college from UCLA. She and Roker were married at a home in Peekskill on Dec. 22, 1984, according to a wedding announcement published in the New York Times.

Roker, 70, was absent from his usual post on “Today” on Tuesday morning. NBC News meteorologist Dylan Dreyer filled in for him.

In addition to Courtney, Roker has two adult children — Leila and Nick — with his current wife, journalist Deborah Roberts. The couple married in 1995.

Roker had not publicly commented on Bell’s death as of Tuesday afternoon.
