The governor of Barlinnie says he would struggle to survive life inside Scotland’s biggest jail.
Michael Stoney described the prison as a “pressure cooker”.
He claims new early release laws – that will free up to 390 prisoners – are necessary for staff and inmates at the overcrowded Glasgow jail which currently runs at 140 per cent capacity.
Nearly 1400 prisoners, are housed at Barlinnie, which was designed for just 987.
Stoney added: “It is like a pressure cooker, and the more you put the pressure on, the more likely there is for negative outcomes.”
A replacement for Barlinnie is expected to open in 2028 at a cost of nearly £1billion.
