Marie Curie is calling on fantastic fundraisers across Lanarkshire to raise vital cash to support its Great Daffodil Appeal this March.

Fundraising events such as a yellow-themed bake sale to raise some dough or striding out for a DIY sponsored walk in the Spring sunshine will help the charity bring expert end-of-life care to more people than ever – whatever the illness.

Other ideas could include rounding up friends, family or colleagues for a bingo fundraiser, or turning unwanted items into cash with a cupboard-clearing fundraiser.

When signing up, Marie Curie will give fundraisers everything they need to make organising their fundraiser as easy as possible – from step-by-step guides, to cake flags, walking playlists, bingo cards, invitations, fundraising in-memory cards, and more.

Every five minutes, someone dies without the care they need.

Marie Curie’s flagship fundraiser raises much needed funds for Marie Curie Nurses and healthcare professionals to provide expert care and support in Lanarkshire.

It also funds the charity’s free support line and webchat, which is available to anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from and those close to them.

It offers practical and emotional support on everything from managing symptoms, navigating care to financial information, including how to get help with energy bills, and bereavement support.

Marie Curie is dependent on public donations and last year supporters helped the charity provide direct care to almost 40,000 people across the UK via its hospices and through overnight nursing care in people’s own homes.

The money raised also funds the Information and Support line which provides practical information or a listening ear to over 19,000 people across the UK.

Lindsay Davenport, Marie Curie community fundraiser for Lanarkshire, said: “We’re now in our 39th year of the Great Daffodil Appeal and we’re hoping to raise more money than ever before.

“We’re looking for the people of Lanarkshire to come up with some fantastic ways to fundraise for Marie Curie this March.

“We’d love our fundraisers to host bake sales, sponsored DIY walks, bingo nights or sell items they no longer want or need, to help raise much needed funds so we can bring vital hospice care to more people.

“And if none of these are your thing, why not simply turn your hobby, social or sporting activity into a fundraiser and do your thing to raise money for the UK’s leading end-of-life charity?

“By getting involved and fundraising, Lanarkshire locals will be doing something incredible and helping us to deliver services to those people with any illness they are likely to die from and their loved ones.

“The Great Daffodil Appeal only comes around once a year, so why not get in touch and be part of something that makes a real difference.”
