If you think the dust and grime collecting on your visible surfaces is bad, just take a moment to imagine what’s lurking in the nooks and crannies out of sight – those hidden spots are probably plotting a filthy rebellion of their own.
One brave Scottish mum has taken upon herself to demonstrate just how dirty certain areas of your home can get if you neglect them. Taking to her popular cleanwith_kayleigh Instagram page, Kayleigh Taylor filmed herself tackling one of the most neglected spots during house cleaning: the space behind the sofa.
In her video, the 30-year-old was visibly shocked as she lifted and moved her couch, revealing a horror show of forgotten mess. As she examined the neglected corners, she uncovered a bizarre collection of candy wrappers, colourful unidentified objects, stray toys, and a variety of random abandoned items.

Kayleigh was then filmed vacuuming every angle of her couch, behind the sofa, and even the bottom of the wall, leaving the space eventually squeaky clean. She later revealed in the comments she had used a Shark PowerDetect vacuum, which retails for around £400 online.
“It could have been worse, right?” Kayleigh humorously wrote in her video’s caption. A handful of the influencer’s 517,000 followers reacted, as an Instagram user commented: “So funny when you’re a kid and you throw something behind the couch or in between the cushions the logic is ‘it’s gone forever now’.”
A person wrote: “So satisfying love it when the more messy it is the more good you feel when cleaned up maybe I’m just weird lol.” Someone else said: “My back kinda hurts watching this very satisfying though xx” Another said: “So satisfying can’t wait to do mine next week now.”
How often should you clean behind your couch?
You should clean behind your couch at least every few months, as this is a hard-to-reach area where dust can accumulate quickly, Roomservice360 explains. However, the frequency may depend on factors like how much traffic is in the area and your personal preference.
Some experts suggest cleaning it every two to three weeks if you have pets or heavy foot traffic. Cleaning behind your couch every few months is important as it prevents excessive dust build-up.
