They say one person’s trash is another’s treasure – and that’s definitely the case with this story.
A woman called Tina was delighted to find an antique gem in an unexpected place. To her surprise, it had been discarded in an old skip.
She took to TikTok to share her delight at the discovery, saying it’s enough to make her bargain-hunting mother proud. She gushed: “It’s only now that I realise just how much my mum taught me but more surprising, how much knowledge this scatty brain of mine has kept locked away… Over the moon! All thanks to my mumma.”
The clip began with Tina bringing home a table, which she revealed nearby builders had given her permission to take away. Delighted, she said: “I have a £3,000 table from a skip, unbelievable.”
The Danish teak coffee table was likely designed by Peter Hivdt and Orla Molgaard-Nielsen back in the 1950s or 1960s. It was instantly recognised by Tina, who declared: “I knew what this was as soon as I saw it. Fun fact – my mum and I used to wheel and deal in antiques and for most of my life she’s taught me everything I know – she’d be so proud.
“I’ve checked it all over and it is absolutely perfect. It needs restoring, but I will do that. The legs are fine and the rattan shelf is intact. I’m under no illusion that I’m going to get three grand for this piece – it is beautiful, but to actually get three grand for it is very unlikely. I’ll do it up though and then it’ll definitely be worth a nice bit of money.”
Tina was even more thrilled to learn that a new version of the same item was being sold online for £3,200. And it’s safe to say people were equally as impressed. In the comments section, one viewer praised: “Amazing find, you know what they say! Knowledge is power. Well done.”
Another chimed in: “It’s pretty ridiculous what people throw away some have no idea of worth some simply just have too much money to care, good find.” And a third joined in the praise, noting: “Good job mum had great taste and taught you a good eye. She’d be very proud.”
