AUSTIN, Texas — After a drenching start to the week, we are now tracking drier skies for portions of Texas. However, this means we’re turning our attention to the swinging pendulum of temperatures over the next few days.
Ahead of our next system, Wednesday afternoon should be pretty nice, with afternoon temperatures ranging through the 60s and 70s. There will be a fight between warm and cold air, so it’s a bit of a toss up to see just how warm we could actually get.
Eventually, the cold air will win and morning temperatures Thursday will be the coldest we’ve seen since late January.

Afternoon highs Thursday will stay well below average, topping out in the mid-40s. Friday will gain a few degrees, but below-average temperatures prevail for the end of the workweek.

If you have outside plans for Valentine’s Day, you may want to shift them forward to the weekend. Thankfully, we do warm up quite a bit Saturday, with highs in the 70s areawide. But that warmth will be short-lived as another cold front pushes into Central Texas at the start of next week.
Morning lows will be chilly most days besides Saturday. The Austin Marathon takes place on Sunday, so make sure you are wearing your layers for the first few miles. Gusty winds are also expected Sunday, which will have conditions feeling a bit colder.

If you have the day off for Presidents Day on Monday, anticipate brisk temperatures too. A warmer trend eventually kicks back in by the middle of next week, with only a few minor rain chances around.
