A crook stuffed $1.5 million in jewels into two suitcases during a daring late-night heist in a downtown Brooklyn Macy’s but was forced to run off without a single bauble, police said Wednesday.
Cops have released an image of the jewel thief, hoping someone recognizes him.
Sporting a reflective work vest, a Nike ski cap, and a surgical mask, the man entered the Fulton St. department store at about 9:15 p.m. Monday, cops said.
He remained inside and hid as workers closed the store.
Once alone, he went to the jewelry section and put $1.5 million in necklaces, bracelets, and other bling into two suitcases.
But his plan quickly fell apart when a store security guard spotted him leaving through a side entrance and gave chase, cops said.
During the brief pursuit, the thief dropped both suitcases. All of the stolen items were accounted for and no injuries were reported.
The thief remained at large on Wednesday.
Cops are asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
