The teacher, who was working at Pfluger Elementary School in Buda, had been employed in the district since 2018.

AUSTIN, Texas — A teacher is no longer employed by Hays CISD following a physical incident with a student on Monday.

According to Hays CISD, a first-grade teacher at Pfluger Elementary School in Buda is accused of dragging a student by the arm from the gym to a hallway outside the gym during the school’s daily dismissal.

Other teachers who witnessed the event notified campus administrators, who then immediately contacted the Human Resources department.

The teacher reported to the district’s administrative offices the following morning, at which point the teacher resigned. The district subsequently reported the incident to Child Protective Services (CPS) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

“At no time, and under no circumstance, is it OK for an employee of our school district to treat a child in this manner. The actions of this teacher are completely unacceptable,” said Hays CISD chief communication officer Tim Savoy. “Children are entrusted into our care by the thousands each day. We take that responsibility seriously and to heart, and are deeply distressed by the incident that occurred Monday.”

Hays CISD said the teacher had been employed in the district since October 2018.
