Smirking Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel insists he still wants his dad Peter to attend Champions League games – despite a winless streak when the Manchester United icon was in attendance.

It was another blockbuster night in Europe’s elite competition for the Scottish champions as they pushed Bayern Munich to their limit inside the Celtic Park cauldron – with Daizen Maeda‘s strike giving Brendan Rodgers’ men a lifeline to take into the second leg. However, the game ended in a 2-1 defeat as Harry Kane and Co took an advantage into the second leg at the Allainz Arena – and kept up an unwanted Schmeichel family record.

After the full-time whistle, CBS Golazo host Kate Abdo was quick to put the Schmeichels on the spot over his track record when in attendance for Celtic‘s games in Europe’s elite competition. The Premier League legend has conducted post-match interviews for the 7-1 mauling at the hands of Borussia Dortmund and the goalless draw with Dinamo Zagreb during the league phase – before operating in the same role during the first leg defeat to Bayern.

Abdo quizzed: “I think you have been to three Celtic games now this Champions League season Peter, and he hasn’t exactly brought you luck Kasper. Would you like your dad to be at the next game in Munich, or how do you feel about that?”

Laughing, Schmeichel Jr said: “Nah, I don’t think that has anything to do with it.” Abdo continued: “CBS are saying it’s up to you, it’s your decision.”

Kasper went on: “No, I would like him to be there.” Peter chimed in: “I like that as well, and I cannot believe you asked that.”

The Hoops No. 1 added: “Having said that, it’s not that often you can get to my games because you are working. But with the chances that there are you have to take them.”

The Old Trafford icon said: “Still, you have been put in a situation that is impossible. What if you really didn’t want me there?”

Smirking Kapser clapped back: “I would tell you. Of course I would.”
