Scots were left amazed at the “unusual” sighting of two huge Chinook military helicopters flying over Glasgow and Central Scotland on Wednesday night.
The aircraft caught the attention of many residents who reacted online after spotting them, with some even admitting they felt their properties “shake” as they flew past.
It comes after RAF Lossiemouth put out a flying notice last week stating that RAF Chinooks and Pumas would be used in training exercises between February 6 and 21 across most of the country. This included the Central Belt, Tayside, and the Highlands.
The Air Force warned that the helicopters could be flying at low altitudes. Other places across Scotland, including Fife, have also seen Scots sharing online that they had seen the huge aircraft passing.
Flight tracker information from Wednesday night showed the RAF aircraft going from Cumbernauld to Edinburgh around 10:30 p.m.
One local in the east of Glasgow said: “Was very unusual, but yeah, some training being done.”
Another added: “Saw them, my wee flat shook lol.” One said: “It’s Operation Secure the Skies doing training up here.”
RAF Lossiemouth said: “From February 6-21, RAF Chinooks and Pumas will be training out of Leuchars Aerodrome.
“They will be operating across a variety of locations, including the Central Belt, Tayside, and the Highlands.
“Depending on operational requirements, there may be the possibility of these aircraft operating at low altitudes and during irregular hours.
“Please share this with those who may have to make arrangements for livestock or those who may be concerned about the increased military aircraft presence. We thank everyone for their continued support.”
