Slobodan Rubezic has left Aberdeen on loan to return to Serbia.

The centre back has joined FK Novi Pazar until the end of the season, after 18 months at Pittodrie. The Dons forked out an undisclosed fee to bring him to the Scottish Premiership in the summer of 2033 from the same club. The big defender was a regular under Barry Robson, playing regularly in the league and Europa League group stage.

However, Rubezic has been in and out more since Jimmy Thelin‘s arrival. He asked to be subbed during the first of the recent 3-0 home defeat to St Mirren after a horror show of a first half, in which two errors led to the Buddies going 2-0 up. The Montenegrin didn’t train in the days after the game, but returned to the squad the following week, although was an unused sub against Hibs. Now he’s returned to his former club for the rest of the campaign.

The January arrivals of centre backs Kristers Tobers and Mats Knoester pushed Rubezic down the pecking order and he now wants to play more regularly. “Slobodan’s professionalism and application since our arrival has been exemplary however, he now believes it is the right time for him to return to Serbia in search of regular game time”, said Thelin.

“We would like to wish him well during his time at his former club.”
