Antiques Road Trip expert Philip Serrell was left speechless after suffering a significant loss on an item. In Wednesday’s (February 12) episode of the BBC spin-off show, Phil and co-star Natasha Raskin-Sharp were scouring Scotland for bargains, travelling in a 1948 classic car.
Each had a budget of £200 to collect five items from local shops. Natasha secured a badge collection, a Spode meat platter, a Swedish art ceramic desk set, a bouillotte lamp and a silvered copper fish dish.

Phil, on the other hand, spent his entire budget on Bryant and May advertising matchboxes, a 1950s racing helmet, a Victorian truncheon and a 19th century boot scraper. However, his hopes of making a profit on the boot scraper were dashed.
He had spotted the item in a shop and commented: “That’s nice. A boot scraper and it is cast iron so, originally that was £120 and that’s been crossed out and it’s now £100. So, it’s clearly on the way down and not on the way up.”
Despite securing the piece for £50 after haggling with the shop owner, Phil was left disappointed when the boot scraper made a £25 loss at auction, reports the Mirror.
Just before the gut-wrenching scene unfolded, Natasha tried to comfort her colleague, saying: “Hey, it’s going to be fine.”
Filled with optimism, Philip responded: “I’m positive now. Right, think positive.”
However, as the auction commenced, the auctioneer announced: “We’re opening already at £20. £20 with me for the cast iron boot scraper. Here at £25 takes online.”
Disappointed, Natasha looked at Phil and remarked: “I think you’ve been done there. That’s annoying.”
A visibly upset Phil folded his arms and stated: “I don’t want to talk about it.”
To which Natasha replied: “Ok then we won’t.”
