Renfrewshire Council yesterday confirmed that Quality Radio FM will be moving from Paisley Grammar.

The local authority revealed the radio station is “in the process” of moving out of the school building on Glasgow Road.

The statement follows news earlier in the week that one of the station’s DJs was arrested and charged after an alleged paedophile sting at Stirling railway station.

Michael McLean, also known as Ian McLean Smith, was confronted during a TikTok live by a vigilante group on Tuesday evening. Police were called to the scene at Chandlers Court in the city and the 78-year-old was arrested.

He was later charged in connection with alleged indecent online communications and will appear at Stirling Sheriff Court at a later date.

And yesterday a Renfrewshire Council spokesperson issued a statement which read: “Pupil safety is our absolute priority and we have robust processes in place around any non-staff access to school buildings.

“We are aware of allegations against an individual volunteer with Quality FM radio station.

“We can confirm this individual will have no further access to any school and that the radio station is in the process of moving out of the school building.”

The spokesperson added: “As the individual is now subject to a police investigation we can’t comment any further.”

McLean – who had been working as a volunteer DJ for Quality FM – was previously an organ player at the former Castlehead Church in the town.

He also volunteered as the matchday announcer at the Stair Park home of SPFL League Two side Stranraer. The club confirmed on Wednesday that he is now suspended, pending a police investigation.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “A 78-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged indecent online communications.

“Officers were called to the Chandlers Court area of Stirling regarding the allegation around 6pm on Tuesday, February 11. He is expected to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court at a later date.”

The Paisley Daily Express contacted Quality Radio FM for a response and a spokesperson said the station “has been removed” from the school as they have “no requirement” to be in the building.

The spokesperson also confirmed that the migration “has been planned since early 2024” and the group plans to have a “continued presence” in Paisley.

The spokesperson added: “No children were allowed into the broadcast areas unless accompanied by an appropriate adult, i.e family or teacher. The station’s team had restricted access to the school which meant they did not come into contact with any pupils. Volunteers must have a current PVG certificate.”
