Nicolas Kuhn has been “scouted” repeatedly by Newcastle Utd this season with the latest during Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, according to a report.

The Celtic winger has been a standout during his first full campaign with the Hoops since arriving from Rapid Vienna in January 2024. And the Daily Mail reports that the Toon have sent talent spotters to rule the rule over the German wide man on several occasions this season. Reps from St James’ Park were at Parkhead on Wednesday night to see Kuhn blow the roof off Celtic Park within the first minute of the Champions League playoff clash with Bayern Munich, only for his stunning early opener to be ruled out for offside.

Eddie Howe is prioritising a right winger this summer and Kuhn seems to fit the bill, with Newcastle also impressed by his versatility. The 25-year-old can also operate centrally or on the left and is thought to fit Eddie Howe’s preferred profile of pacy dribblers, in a similar mould to Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle kept their powder dry in January, planning to recruit more heavily this summer when they will have more room to manoeuvre in terms of PSR. Celtic paid £3million to bring Kuhn to Glasgow and it’s claimed a bid of at least £20million would be required to prise him away from Parkhead.

However, despite PSR restrictions in recent season, the Saudi backed Magpies have deeper pockets than just about every ther club on the planet and still see that as good value. After bringing Jota back during January, this summer could see Celtic reluctantly cash in on Kuhn and continue their impressive player trading model before reinvesting ahead of the Champions League qualifiers to try and keep the lucrative group stage prize money rolling in.
