Rangers hero Peter Lovenkrands has opened up on THAT famous dog picture for the first time.
The former Ibrox winger’s pup became an internet sensation in 2018 when Lovenkrands posted a snap of the golden Labrador on Instagram, wishing him a happy 12th birthday. The Dane paid tribute to his “beautiful boy” – and a fan mistakenly responded assuming Lovenkrands was referring to his human child.
In an innocent response, the follower wrote: “Hopefully grows up to score goals against Celtic, just like his old man.” But by the time the punter realised he was guilty of an hilarious mix-up, the damage was already done. A mocked-up photo of the dog’s head in a Rangers jersey quickly went viral and Lovenkrands’ beloved pet became a worldwide meme – with fans even dressing up as the dog for Halloween.
Sadly, Lovenkrands’ pooch is no longer with us after passing away around five years ago. But it’s fair to say his legacy certainly lives on. Speaking about his alternative claim to fame, the ex-Newcastle United star told the Warm-Up: “It’s mad!

“It comes in waves, especially around Halloween, Christmas, when people start dressing up, I’ve seen people walk through airports like that with the head on. I get sent them all the time on social media. My kids now are at school and every time they go to school people are like ‘I’m going to dress like this!’
“My dog died five or six years ago, and he’s still flying! He’s actually been sold, somebody has done it with a Newcastle strip on. There’s a wee kid standing with a dog head on in a Newcastle strip. When I saw it at the darts, I was like, no way! I swear, somebody’s got it tattooed! I got sent it on my phone. It’s on a calf. That’s a Magaluf shout or something like that. It must’ve been on a holiday.”
