Jack Catterall will have his eyes on world championship contention when he faces Arnold Barboza Jr.
With an outstanding record of 30-1, the 31-year-old from Chorley will step into the ring on a four-fight unbeaten streak as he hopes to add the vacant WBO Interim World Super-Lightweight title to his collection of accolades and achievements. However, Barboza Jr will be a tough task standing in his way.
Catterall got his first crack at world championship contention back in February 2022, when he faced Josh Taylor for the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and WBO Light-Welterweight titles. Not only did ‘El Gato’ leave the bout empty-handed following a close-fought split-decision loss, but he also endured the first defeat of his professional boxing career for his efforts.
And while Catterall ultimately atoned for his loss by besting Taylor in a rematch last May via unanimous-decision, no titles were on the line during that bout. Armed with wins over Taylor, Darragh Foley, Jorge Linares, and Regis Prograis, Catterall hopes to carry on his momentum when he steps into the ring with Barboza Jr.
However, the undefeated American holds a record of 31-0 with 11 knockouts and will undoubtedly be an incredibly tough puzzle for the Englishman to piece together. And with recent wins over the likes of Jose Ramirez, Sean McComb, Xolisani Ndongeni and Jose Pedraza, he will be looking for his first-ever shot at a world championship.

Jack Catterall: “Of course, I respect his ability. Again, he’s said it before that he’s been working hard to get to this position – but I’ll stand on what I said. I don’t think he’s a great fighter. I think he’s average – a B-class fighter. I can only think of two opponents that he’s boxed, Sean McComb – who beat him – and Ramirez, who I didn’t thin was on the best form that night. Nonetheless, I give him his credit, he turned up and did what he had to do, but it’s a whole different ball game next weekend.”
Arnold Barboza Jr: “I feel like my whole career I’ve been the underdog, even when I’m the favourite. I think I’ve been overlooked my whole career, and people are finally getting to see who Barboza is. So come February 15th, my hand will be raised that [the belt] will be coming with me.”
