Striker Hamza Igamane admits he needs to improve if he is to continue to make a mark at Rangers.

The Moroccan burst onto the Ibrox scene in October as he made himself as Philippe Clement ‘s go-to frontman with the 22-year-old pushing Cyriel Dessers out of the picture – sparking admiring glances from Everton, Tottenham, West Ham, Newcastle United, Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham in the January window. But after netting 13 times so far this season, the goals have started to dry up for the £1.7m summer recruit.

He has now gone five games without a strike and has been pushed further back by Clement at times to allow Dessers to return to the starting line-up – but did lead the line during the disastrous Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Queen’s Park that has left the Belgian boss hanging on to the Light Blues’ top job by his fingertips. And speaking to Onze, he admitted there was plenty for him to work on.

Igamane said: “I am still far from my potential. I need to work a lot, nothing replaces continuity in work. This is the only way I will be able to erase my faults.

“My margin for improvement is important, it’s the thing that motivates me the most: work, work, work, and see how far it will take me. I want to maintain my progress, show continuity in my work and take additional steps because I am not yet where I want to be.”

Amid a tweak to his position, he also offered a hint to his under-fire Rangers boss at where he would like to play. The attacker added: “I am a centre forward by trade, that is clear.

“Afterwards, I remain a player capable of adapting to various systems of play and various positions if asked. For example, I can easily occupy the left or right flank.

“However, I am attracted to the axis, of course, because my objective is to make the net tremble. I think that is normal, a striker lives to score.”
