Hamza Igamane admits he was filled with a “rage to win” during Old Firm matches.
The Moroccan has sampled derbies with Celtic on three occasions so far as a Rangers player; the 3-0 defeat back in September, a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat in a thrilling Premier Sports Cup Final and a 3-0 Gers win at Ibrox just after the New Year. He’s yet to find the net on derby day, but did manage an assist at Hampden. And it seems Igamane has already gotten to grips with what it’s all about.
“It was a magnificent derby. In this kind of match, you feel all the passion, all the fervor of these people for football, especially in this city,” he told Onze Mundial “It is really an impressive rivalry between the two clubs. When you are on the field, you feel this rage to win. And in terms of the atmosphere in the stands, it was really great. Personally, I really enjoyed the match.”
As for his highlight as a Rangers player so far, there’s a clear standout moment for Igamane. He added: “The one against Tottenham, in the Europa League, in an extraordinary atmosphere, at Ibrox Park.
“The stadium was full and the noise deafening. In addition, it is a kind of derby between a Scottish club and an English club, so of course, when I score, I feel the adrenaline invade me. It is my most significant goal since my arrival.”
