A Lanarkshire Labour MSP has praised local college students for their ‘trailblazing’ approach to one of Scotland’s most important industries.

Following a recent visit to New College Lanarkshire, Scottish Labour politician Monica Lennon said that the hospitality students were providing ‘food for thought’ and bringing fresh ideas to a sector with a reputation for high levels of stress and burnout.

Monica Lennon MSP spent an afternoon visiting the Motherwell campus where she met with staff and students, including New College Lanarkshire Principal and CEO Professor Christopher Moore.

The Central Scotland list MSP Monica Lennon, Scottish Labour and Co-operative MSP for Central Scotland said: “New Lanarkshire College continues to cook up a storm.

“After topping the UK WorldSkills leadership board, I was keen to return for a visit to learn more about the innovative approach to partnership working. “Getting college graduates ready for the opportunities in the world of work relies of great collaboration between colleges, businesses and third sector partners.

“The hospitality students I met were brimming with passion and enthusiasm and projects like The Burnt Chef are key to a happy and healthy workforce.

“By promoting mental health awareness and support within the hospitality industry, New College Lanarkshire’s hospitality students are providing food for thought.

“I am hugely impressed by the dedication of everyone involved.”

The visit coincided with the #LoveScotlandsColleges campaign, an annual celebration of Scotland’s colleges that highlights the people, partnerships, and possibilities within these institutions.

The campaign recognises the innovation and excellence that happens in Scotland’s colleges and encourages everyone to share why they love these vital educational hubs.
