Coronation Street fans are speculating that a beloved cobbles icon might make a comeback as Cassie Plummer continues her scheme against Ken Barlow.
On the show last year, audiences were taken aback when Cassie (Claire Sweeney) began secretly poisoning Ken (William Roache). Their unlikely bond formed when Ken required care after suffering a fall and injured himself.
Yet, as Ken reassessed his financial situation, he concluded he could no longer afford Cassie’s services. Not willing to surrender her sole income source, Cassie resorted to medicating Ken without his knowledge to prolong his illness.
Meanwhile, other Weatherfield locals have started doubting Cassie’s motives for assisting Ken, Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), Ken’s daughter, being one of them, reports Leicestershire Live.

Despite this scrutiny, Cassie has persisted in doping Ken with antihistamines, ensuring his dependence on her. Even facing close calls, she has escalated her exploitation by siphoning his money shamelessly.
Most recently, she’s intensified her deceit by stealing his credit card and splurging on extravagant items. Cassie appears unstoppable thus far, but fans believe an unforeseen return of a former cobbles legend could be just what it takes to stop her devious antics.
On a Facebook page dedicated to the series, a viewer expressed their eagerness for Cassie’s plot to unravel: “When will Cassie finally be exposed. I just want it to be done with now.”
Fans are rushing to the comments section with a theory that Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire) might just be the one to come to her old friend Ken’s rescue. They’re saying: “We need Emily to come back and put an end to Cassie’s madness.”
Another fan chimed in: “Yes! I miss seeing her around.”
A third added: “Same, she wouldn’t stand for it”.
Eileen Derbyshire, who portrayed Emily, first appeared on Corrie in 1961. As a cherished resident of Weatherfield, Emily quickly became a fan favourite and a mainstay on the show.
Moreover, Eileen remained on the soap until 2016, securing her position as one of the longest-serving actors in a UK soap, second only to Bill Roache, who has played Ken Barlow since the show’s inception in 1960.
The actress left for personal reasons, and at the time, it was uncertain if her exit was for good.

Emily’s departure was written off as a trip to Peru to visit family. Later, it was disclosed that Emily had settled down in Edinburgh.
