A high-quality single malt needn’t set you back by too many quids, especially if you’re often on the lookout for a new whisky to knock back. There’s no shortage of deals out there, and right now, there’s a particularly well-regarded option that we highly recommend checking out.

Right now, The Singleton 12-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is marked down to £27 from £46 on Amazon, with a few older options available at their respective full prices.

Winner of the Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and International Spirits Challenge in 2022, this single malt scotch is renowned for its outstanding quality. Aged in Pedro Ximenez Oloroso and bourbon casks, it’s got strong notes of honey with a nuttiness underpinning the rest of the flavour profile.

You’ll also find notes of soft-cooked apples, espresso, and brown sugar, with a smooth finish that goes down easy neat or with a drop of mineral water if that’s more your fancy. If you’re partial to a cocktail though, you can also use it in whatever concoction you’re brewing up – colourful umbrella on the side or not.

After 4,741 ratings, it’s got a tremendous 4.7 out of 5-star average at Amazon. “This is my ‘go to’ when it comes to a regular malt to have in,” said one five-star write-up. “It’s also the malt I recommend to those who are not familiar with Scottish single malt. It’s smooth and balanced, with a hint of caramel/toffee and also that slight ‘Christmas cake’ note. Do yourself a favour though, don’t be mixing good single malt with anything other than a wee splash of mineral water!”

“Not a whisky connoisseur or snob, but this tastes pretty good and is well worth the money,” said another happy customer. “It’s smooth and well-balanced, and I don’t get too much of a fuzzy head in the morning. I bought a couple as presents in the past, and it’s well received.”

“I love this as it’s nice and smooth,” added another. “But please remember, what tastes nice one week doesn’t always taste nice the following week.” They even added a helpful hint: “If it’s a little sharp, just a drop of water can make all the difference.”

The world of whisky is also one of strong opinions, and no scotch is safe from it not being to someone’s taste. “The whisky is best described as mediocre,” said one three-star review. “Very smooth but lacking character. Nothing exceptional, and there are better products or a similar or better quality at £30 less than the price I paid.”

Another felt it lacked the qualities it should have: “This neither tastes like a sweet bourbon cask or traditional Speyside whisky. If you have tasted one of those honey-infused blended whiskies, that’s exactly what it tastes like. If it has been in a cask for 12 years, I’d also be surprised.”

There are plenty more deals to consider, such as the Wormtub 10 Year Old is available for £43.95 down from £49.95 at Master of Malt. The Jura 10 Year Old for £31.25 at The Whisky Exchange is another good bet if you’re looking for something new.

At just £27, however, it’s hard to ignore The Singleton 12 Year Old so it’s a bottle worth adding to your drinks cabinet.
