A unique Scots castle has been closed to the public so it can be repaired.
Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries and Galloway is the only triangular castle in Britain and has been used in numbers films, including The Decoy Bride featuring David Tennant and Kelly Macdonald.
However, Historic Environment Scotland has now closed the 13th century landmark so that scaffolding can be erected, the staircase and north west tower can be repaired and a fabric inspection can take place.
District visitor and community manager at HES, Rosie Thorp, said: “Originally built in the 1270s, Caerlaverock Castle is a hugely important site in Dumfries and Galloway, and these measures are necessary to facilitate vital conservation works.
“We understand that visitors will be eager to get back inside the castle, however, this work is part of the important maintenance of the historic site.
“While we aim to reopen the interior of the Castle in spring, visitors can continue to enjoy the breathtaking views of Caerlaverock Castle, with its unique triangular shape, and explore the visitor centre where they can find out more about this outstanding, historic location.”

Caerlaverock Castle, which is a few miles outside Dumfries, previously closed in the spring of 2021 amid concerns over the condition of its masonry and it remained shut for around two years.
Investigations looked at the impact of climate change as well as deterioration caused by other factors, such as materials used in construction, age and location.
The castle will be closed during the latest round of work but visitors can still visit the grounds, playparks, visitor centre and exhibition.
