Members of Motherwell and Wishaw Inner Wheel Club received parliamentary approval for their community work.
The ladies were delighted to learn that they had received a letter advising that Motherwell and Wishaw MSP, Clare Adamson, has raised a motion at the Scottish Parliament recognising the club for their longstanding contribution to the community.
The club has been in existence for 77 years, with the first president being a well-known lady called Mrs IB Munro.
It was founded in 1947 initially for the wives of Rotarians, and the ladies would bake and make jam and hold fundraising events for their local community.
Fast-forward 77 years and the Inner Wheel Club of Motherwell and Wishaw still provide support for their local community but now have many international causes and charities they support.
Club president Marjorie McGeary said: “We are delighted to have received this honour and we have also been asked to join Clare Adamson at the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh for a congratulatory lunch.”
Members come from all walks of life and professions. However, the emphasis is still the same as it was 77 years ago – support for those causes who need it, but importantly, support and friendship for all of the club’s members.
