(CNN) – The annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday where along with highlighting this year’s achievements in television and film, they honored a legend.

Actress Jane Fonda accepted the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 87-year-old persevered over some audio issues and encouraged the importance of activism.

She shared her passion for the craft of acting and highlighted her views surrounding the importance of “creating empathy.”

The two-time Oscar winner who has long been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump then went on to reference current events of defining moments in history telling the audience, “We are in our documentary moment right now.”

Fonda reminded everyone it is OK to be a late bloomer and ended with words of encouragement saying there will always be beauty and “an ocean of truth for us to swim in.”
