WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – President Donald Trump says he and French President Macron see eye to eye over the war in Ukraine.

As the war in Ukraine marks its 3 year anniversary, President Trump says the U.S. and the Europe have the same goals for dealing with Russia and ending the war.

President Trump’s first meeting with a European ally was with French President Emmanuel Macron; with both leaders saying they both want peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.

“I believe that Emmanuel agrees with me on many of the most important issues, chief among them is that this is the right time and may be the only time.”

Earlier in the Oval Office, Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin would accept European peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of a peace deal.

“I’m also pleased that P resident Macron agrees that the cost and burden of securing the peace must be borne by the nations of Europe and not alone by the United States and Europe will take that central role in assuring the long-term security of Ukraine, which they want to do.”

French President Emmanuel Macron struck an optimistic tone,

“Today’s discussion showed us ability issues and the first, we have been working a great deal with President Zelensky to have a proposal that’s acceptable to Ukraine.”

For all the optimism expressed by President Trump regarding a peace deal soon being reached, a different perspective expressed Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin making clear that say that he hadn’t yet “substantially” discussed a resolution to the conflict.
