A Coatbridge clubber who impersonated a bouncer then stabbed a man who “grassed” him has been locked up for a year.

Nathan Dawson had borrowed a steward’s jacket, gone into a toilet and demanded to know if a fellow reveller was taking drugs.

After the prank was reported the two men got into a fight and Dawson knifed the man multiple times.

Dawson, 20, admitted assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement at Vibe nightclub in Airdrie on February 21 last year.

The victim suffered wounds to his buttock, back and arms, and needed 12 stitches.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard the two men were in separate company at the club.

Sarah Healing, prosecuting, said: “At some point Dawson asked for, and was given, a loan of a steward’s jacket.

“About half past midnight a witness saw him standing at the club entrance and assumed he was working as a door steward.

“Dawson then went inside, wearing the jacket and pretending to be a member of staff, saying it was for a laugh.

“He followed the victim into the toilet and knocked on the door of the cubicle he was occupying.

“Dawson asked if he was taking drugs. The man took exception to this suggestion and said he wasn’t.

“Dawson was then reported to the nightclub management.”

Later Dawson followed the man out of the club and asked: “Why the f**k did you grass?”

The victim responded by punching Dawson, who retaliated, and a fight broke out.

Ms Healing added: “Dawson produced a knife and stabbed the man several times on the body before walking away.

“The victim staggered away and felt blood running down his legs.

“When police officers traced the accused he told them, ‘I’m very sorry I stabbed him. He said something about my dead gran’.

“The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital. He was found to have sustained multiple stab wounds.”

Passing sentence, Sheriff Paul Haran told Dawson he will be under social work supervision when he is released and must attend addiction services.
