A Wishaw life coach has been recognised at a top national awards ceremony.

Nicola Creen took home the most Inspiring Individual award at the inaugural Mental Health & Wellbeing (Scotland) Awards.

The event, held at the SEC in Glasgow, rewards and recognises individuals and companies in Scotland who go above and beyond to put the wellbeing of others first.

Nicola said: “It was amazing just to be nominated and it was very inspiring to hear stories from so many people that were in the room.

“It was a very special night to be part of and to win the award was incredible.

“This has really given me a real shot in the arm to continue to work hard and help people.”

Nicola battled back from being bullied as a teenager to become a top model, culminating in her winning the Miss Caledonia event in 2012.

She then became a qualified life coach and mental health expert and has a wide range of clients from celebrities to school kids.

Last year, Nicola hosted a major event in Glasgow in a bid to combat the growing mental health crisis.

The Phoenix Rising event featured speakers from across the world.

Nicola added: “After all of the work done to make Phoenix Rising a success, I was very tired and emotionally drained.

“I wanted to take some time out and recharge my batteries.

“However, this award has given me a new lease of life.

“I have been speaking to several groups and organisations.

“There is no doubt that many people are struggling with their mental health so anything I can do to help then I will do it.”

The MHW Awards is managed and organised by The Ajuda Foundation, a community interest company promoting positive mental health in organisations, individuals and communities across the country.

All money raised will be used to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in small communities and in organisations, creating Mental Health Champions who will be able to open up the conversation surrounding this often-challenging topic.
