Dr Amir Khan has shared his ginger shot recipe aimed at boosting the immune system against coughs and colds. With spring in the air but some of us still feeling a touch peaky, the popular TV medic has shared his personal remedy for keeping illnesses at bay.
Back in the midst of flu season last October, Dr Amir first shared his home ginger shot recipe as an alternative to store-bought options. He explained: “I am posting this recipe again because I have seen so many coughs, colds, viruses, particularly in children, and adults, to be fair, today. And lots of shops are selling these ginger shots, but you can just make them at home yourself with these simple ingredients.”
He provided a handy tip for those who wish to prepare in bulk: “And you can make en masse, put them in ice cube trays and just defrost them as you need each shot every morning, I would say. They are strong though, beware.”
Besides acknowledging their recent surge in popularity, Dr Amir also expanded on the various health benefits included within the arsenal of ingredients found in his ginger shot recipe, shining a spotlight on the numerous advantages ginger brings to the table.
Ginger, renowned for its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory effects, can alleviate nausea, arthritis, and pain. It’s also beneficial for digestion, potentially curbing bloating, reports Surrey Live.
Adding lemons contributes soluble fibre, pectin, which serves as a prebiotic nurturing gut bacteria. These citrus fruits are brimming with flavonoids that combat inflammation and abundant vitamin C crucial for the gut lining’s health.
Dr Amir has enhanced his recipe with turmeric, apples, and honey, explaining: “Lemon juice brings the vitamin C, honey is soothing and pepper and turmeric help with inflammation too. I add apple for flavour and fibre and extra plant benefits.

“Remember the best thing for good immune health is a well balanced diet, good quality sleep and regular exercise.”
The appeal of Dr Amir’s ginger shot recipe lies in its absence of additional sugars or preservatives found in some store-bought alternatives. However, he cautions those on blood thinners about the ginger content, stating: “Do not take lots of ginger if you are on blood thinners, mind there is a small increased risk of bleeding so speak to your own doctor first – it’s very rare and probably requires lots of ginger but worth noting.”
