James Hewitt, known for his past romantic involvement with Princess Diana, has shared his thoughts on the reported feud between Prince Harry and Prince William.
On ITV’s Good Morning Britain episode aired on Tuesday (February 25), hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley presented the day’s top stories to their audience.
As the programme neared its conclusion, they introduced James, a former army officer, to speak about the critical support required in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.
He was joined in the studio by John Lawler, the founder of Operation SafeDrop, an initiative providing essential aid to Ukrainian families.
In his television appearance, James conceded that Princess Diana, who tragically died in a car accident in 1997, would have endeavoured to “do her best” to mend the divide between her sons, reports the Mirror.
Richard probed, “What about the gulf between her two boys? Any mother would be grief-stricken at the separation you’ve seen between Harry and Will. Do you think she would have been able to make an [amends] possible?”
James responded, “I think that any mother would be worried and concerned about such a rift, as you put it, and she’d do her best to try and get them together.”
The last time James spoke with Diana was shortly after her explosive BBC Panorama interview aired, which led to her being more “distant” than before.
“It did create problems, but I’m trying to move on from that. This is admittedly, you know, personal for me to try and move on and help as best I can,” he concluded.
The rift between Prince William and Prince Harry has been in the public eye since Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from Royal duties in January 2020.
Following their departure, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made several allegations against the royal family during their interview with Oprah Winfrey and in Harry’s popular memoir, Spare.
In their six-part documentary series, Harry and Meghan, which was released on Netflix in 2022, the couple based in California further explained their reasons for stepping down from Royal responsibilities.
