A student has died after being involved in a horror E-bike crash on a university campus on Tuesday morning.

The 21-year-old was involved in the collision in the early hours of this morning on the University of Nottingham’s Park Campus, with police confirming that the young woman sustained serious injuries, reports the Mirror.

She was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later, her parents have been informed.

A large police presence remained at the scene of the crash as of 11am on Tuesday morning, as two Lime bikes were spotted at the scene next to a cordon erected by Nottinghamshire Police at East Drive’s junction with Keighton Hill.

Police confirmed two bikes were involved, as a security officer for the university told Nottinghamshire Live a “tragic accident” had taken place overnight.

The road is set to remain closed until police have concluded their investigations.

A student, who wished to remain anonymous said they heard about the incident through friends and online and “came to see it in person”. They said: “It’s shocking to see it in real life with the road closed off, especially after what’s been happening in Nottingham recently.”

Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement: “A young woman has died after a road traffic incident at the University of Nottingham. The 21-year-old student sustained serious injuries in the early hours of this morning. She had been riding an electric bicycle on the University Park campus.

“She was taken to hospital but – despite the best efforts of medical staff – was pronounced dead a short time later. The victim’s parents have been informed.”

Detective Sergeant Paul Clark, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident that I know will come as a shock to all who knew and loved the victim. Officers will remain at the scene for much of the day as we work to understand the sequence of events that led to this young woman’s trafic and untimely death. As that work continues our thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time.”
