Kylian Mbappe will miss Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey clash after he suffered pain overnight following a tooth removal.
The France superstar was initially confirmed for the semi-final first leg against Real Sociedad by coach Carlo Ancelotti. But in the hours before the Wednesday night game the club confirmed he will no longer take part after a trip to the dentist. The World Cup winner was absent when Madrid announced their matchday squad, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and midfielder Federico Valverde also absent.
“Mbappé will travel tomorrow,” Ancelotti had initally claimed on Tuesday. “He had a problem with his tooth, he couldn’t train today, but he’ll travel tomorrow, and everyone who travels has the chance to play.”
But transfer guru Fabrizio Romano was among many in the media to confirm the reason for his omission. Posting on X he said: “Kylian Mbappé will miss Real Madrid’s game vs Real Sociedad after feeling bad overnight following tooth extraction. Thibaut Courtois and Fede Valverde will also be out and rested.”
Mbappe is in outstanding form for Los Blancos with 14 goals so far in 2025. He has scored 17 goals in 23 La Liga games, as well as seven goals from 10 Champions League appearances, including a hat trick against Manchester City last week. He has remained mostly injury-free in his time at Madrid so far, after suffering a broken nose at last summer’s Euro 2024.
In Tuesday’s other Copa Del Rey semi-final first leg, city rivals Atletico Madrid came from behind to draw 4-4 with Barcelona.
