A brutal rapist who attempted to murder his victim in a horrific attack has passed away in prison.

Martin Myles, 42, died at HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow on Friday, February 14. The animal was sentenced to 15 years behind bars in September 2022 after he raped and savagely beat his victim, leaving her battling for her life. During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, it was revealed that Myles, hailing from Airdrie, ignored the woman’s desperate pleas for medical assistance after he had raped her and repeatedly kicked her, causing her excruciating pain.

The court also heard how he battered his victim so severely that she suffered a torn bowel.

His savage attempt on her life could have resulted in her death if not for the timely medical intervention she eventually received. She was also subjected to his violent behaviour and was described as being “covered in bruises”.

Myles refuted a series of charges and maintained that any marks were often the result of the woman’s “own misfortune” and not his doing.

However, he was found guilty of four offences, including behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his victim, assaulting the woman, raping the woman, and rape and attempted murder, reports the Daily Record.

The heinous crimes happened between November 2018 and April 2020. The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed the wicked Myles died less than three years into his 15-year sentence.

During sentencing, Lord Stuart condemned Myles for his “vicious” and “evil” assault and rape of the victim, stating: “It is clear from the evidence that I saw and heard that your acts have left her significantly psychologically and physically injured.”

An announcement was made regarding a future Fatal Accident Inquiry.

A spokesperson for SPS commented: “Every death, whether in prison custody or in our communities, is a tragedy for all those who knew and supported the individual.

“Following the death of someone in our care, Police Scotland are advised and the matter is reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Fatal Accident Inquiries are held in due course.”
