PRINCETON, W.Va. – Mercer County Schools Superintendent Ed Toman will head the school system for at least two more years.

The Board of Education announced his contract was recently renewed for two years, starting July 1. The decision was made during the Board’s meeting on February 24, 2025, following a thorough review of key factors impacting Mercer County Schools.

A decision was made based on several factors, the board said, including student achievement and opportunities, financial stability, school operations, facility improvements, personnel, special education and federal programs, as well as community engagement.

As a result of the positive advancement in those and other areas, the vote to extend his contract was unanimous.

“We look forward to working with Mr. Toman as we continue striving to make Mercer County Public Schools the best it can be for our students’ success,” Board President Greg Prudich said.

Toman replaced former superintendent Deborah Akers in 2021.
