AUSTIN, Texas — Gas prices in Texas are down from last year, according to a new report from AAA.
Gas prices in the state cost an average of $2.70 per gallon, which is seven cents cheaper than a week ago and 18 cents less than this time last year.
In the Austin-San Marcos area, gas prices are averaging $2.71 per gallon – slightly higher than the state average but down 11 cents from a week ago and 17 cents on average from this time last year.
Of all major Texas metro areas, El Paso has the highest average gas prices in the state, with a cost of $2.86 per gallon. Drivers in Lubbock are currently paying the least at $2.59 per gallon.
AAA said gas prices are expected to remain steady as March approaches.
