TAZEWELL, Va. – In the Commonwealth, a young student has been given the opportunity to travel to Boston for a medical congress.

Jayden Short is a freshman at Tazewell High School. Recently, she was nominated to join The Congress of Future Medical Leaders, a three day event in Boston, Massachusetts for students interested in the medical field.

Short’s school guidance counselor, Maria White, told WVVA just how much Short has earned her spot.

“Jayden, she’s an awesome student. She makes good grades, she’s very conscientious, here every day doing what’s expected of her, but she’s also very involved. So, in addition to her academics which she takes great pride in, she’s also involved in golf, cheer, and soccer,” said White.

Short said that when she grows up and becomes a doctor, her practice of choice will aid sick and premature babies.

“After high school I plan to go to college and go into the medical field, and then become a neonatologist,” explained Short.

According to Tazewell County Schools, Short’s nomination was signed by a Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Mario Capecchi, and her appointment as a Delegate for the Congress has made her more ready for summer break than ever.

“I am very excited for this summer…I’m looking forward to… the opportunity to get to… hear all these… speakers and meet all these people from across the country,” Short added.

Congratulations to Jayden on her accomplishment.
