Southern University student has died following an off-campus ritual with the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

Caleb Wilson, 20, was with members and pledges at the North Sherwood Forest Community Park in Baton Rouge when he suddenly collapsed late Wednesday or early Thursday morning.

The junior year student — a native of Kenner, La. — was unresponsive when he was brought to Baton Rouge General Hospital in the early hours of Thursday. He was pronounced dead around 3:15 a.m.

According to the coroner, an autopsy is underway to determine Wilson’s cause of death. No other details about the circumstances leading to his death were given. It’s unclear exactly what the fraternity ritual entailed.

“Southern University and A&M College is aware of an off-campus incident that may have resulted in the death of student Caleb Wilson, a junior from New Orleans majoring in mechanical engineering,” the school said in a statement. “The campus community extends condolences to his family, classmates and loved ones.”

The university said it was “cooperating fully with the Baton Rouge Police Department,” which has launched an investigation into Wilson’s death.
