RICHLANDS, Va. – Two years ago, Kendi Dye became the first-ever female Southwest District champion for Richlands. Now in her senior season, she has become the first-ever Richlands and Southwest district female wrestler to make the VHSL Class Two boys state tournament.
Dye would qualify for the state tournament after finishing as a Region 2D runner-up on February 15th at 113lbs. The boys state tournament will be this Saturday at Virginia High School in Bristol, VA but it was not her only focus coming into the week. Dye would finish 5th out of all female wrestlers at 114lbs in the girls state tournament in Glen Allen, VA from Wednesday to Thursday.
Hear from Dye and head coach Jon Brown on her story and her being a trailblazer for other females in the sport of wrestling.
