WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – The President of a Catholic University in North Dakota getting top honors Friday, giving the keynote address at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast.
Lent is almost upon us, and Monsignor James Shea, the president of the University of Mary, is bringing a message of hope to Washington.
“Our churches next Wednesday will be full to overflowing with people who are searching for Hope”
His keynote address followed Vice President JD Vance speaking on the importance of religious freedom.
“And we very often I think ignore the way in which our foreign policy is either an instrument or an impediment to people all over the world being able to practice their faith”
Monsignor Shea says the honor to speak alongside the Vice President was unexpected.
“They reached out to me in early December to wonder if I might be able to give the keynote. I’m not quite sure how I came under their radar, but it was a great honor to be there, the room was full.”
He says the opportunity helps elevate North Dakota to the national spotlight.
“For me to be able to be here at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, is an opportunity to witness to the rest of the country how alive with faith North Dakota really is.”
Lent begins March 5th.
