Concord U Foundation’s 50th year coincides with president’s final year in position

ATHENS, W. Va. -Concord University was busy this evening with the return of the President’s Ball and a meeting of the non-profit Concord University Foundation. This was a milestone year for the Foundation, fifty years since its founding.

The Foundation got its start in 1975 to fund projects and scholarships when state resources wouldn’t be enough. Now, it’s celebrating fifty years of helping the university and its students.

However, the evening’s celebration was bittersweet, with this also being the last President’s Ball for Concord University president, Kendra Boggess.

While looking back on all her jobs she’s held at the university, from teacher to president, she cites her greatest impact was with her interactions with students.

“…The most fun and the most rewarding part is knowing that I made a small difference in the lives of the students that I have, and I stay in touch with many of them and many of them now are on our boards and committees and that’s really rewarding to know you make a difference,” says Boggess.

Boggess’s last day will be August first.

While a replacement for her position has not yet been chosen, Boggess gives the person this advice: listen to the people at the university who love the students and are committed to the area.
