SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (WRGB) – With a combined age of 192, a New York couple are proving you’re never too old to fall in love.

Lewis Taub is 99, and Barbara Kass is 93. After getting married on Valentine’s Day two years ago, the happy couple live together at Prestwick Chase at Saratoga, a retirement community, and spend their days heavily involved in activities.

“You get to be in your 90’s, you’re proud of it.” Taub said. “It’s a very exclusive club.”

When asked what he loves most about his wife, the 99-year-old was not short on words.

“She’s beautiful, kind, and she doesn’t have a temper,” he said. “She doesn’t want me to say she was sexy, too, but I’ll say it anyway.”

The couple’s relationship actually started as a friendship between the two and their late spouses. They all met at a poetry class being held for adults at Skidmore College. After a while, they lost touch.

Years later and both widowed, Taub and Kass just so happened to meet again at the senior center.

“He latched on,” Kass said with a laugh, “and he started courting me big time. He is loving and caring, and he knocks himself out taking care of me.”

The two were dating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kass had a bad fall, breaking her hip, and was placed in a rehab facility in Clifton Park; Taub visited her every day.

“Lew drove down every day to stand outside the window with his telephone. I had my phone on the other side of the window, and we’d talk,” Kass said. “When I was being released from rehab, he said, ‘You come home with me, and I’m going to take care of you.’”

It was this experience and gesture from Taub that moved Kass to propose to him. They were married, with both families present to celebrate their “young love.”

“Lew tucks me in every night and says, ‘Well, kid, we made it through another day,’” Kass said with a laugh. “So, you take it as it comes.”
