A pedestrian killed by a truck driver in Brooklyn had bent down to pick up food he dropped when he was hit — with the driver later telling cops he drove off unaware he had hit someone, police said Monday.
The 49-year-old Mack truck driver hit the victim while making a right turn from Woodpoint Road onto Withers St. in East Williamsburg about 3:55 a.m. Saturday, cops said.
The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital but could not be saved. Cops are still trying to determine his identity.
The driver kept going but was later located and interviewed, saying he was unaware he had struck the crouching victim. He has not been charged but police are still investigating the incident.
