AUSTIN, Texas — One person is dead and four others are injured after a major crash near the Austin airport on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened at State Highway 71 eastbound and Presidential Boulevard just after 1 p.m., according to the Austin Police Department. An Austin Fire Department vehicle and a civilian vehicle were involved in the crash, APD said.
Austin-Travis County EMS medics took two adults to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center – one with critical, life-threatening injuries and one with potentially serious injuries. The person with critical injuries was pronounced dead a short time later.
Three other adults were taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with minor injuries.
As of 3 p.m., the intersection at SH 71 and Presidential Boulevard was closed, but crews had opened the right turn ramp onto Presidential Boulevard. Drivers headed to the airport from Bastrop and the east will need to turn left from the frontage road onto Spirit of Texas Drive.
