WAUKESHA, Wis. (WDJT) – A 17-year-old boy from Wisconsin is facing charges in connection to the deaths of his parents.

Nikita “Niki” Casap, 17, appeared in court Monday for the first time since his arrest in Kansas. He is facing charges after his mother, Tatiana Casap, and his stepfather, Donald Mayer, were found dead Friday night at the family’s home in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

“I have to find a way to go to sleep, get up and go on and have a normal life. I haven’t found it yet,” said Judith Mayer, Donald Mayer’s mother and the suspect’s grandmother.

According to the criminal complaint, Nikita Casap was absent from Waukesha West High School for two weeks before Judith Mayer and a school resource officer requested a welfare check at the family’s home. The 17-year-old previously had perfect attendance.

Police found the suspect’s parents dead at their home, with dried blood surrounding the scene. The teenager had left with a gun and their dog in the family vehicle, according to court documents.

“It was awful, the worst thing a mother could ever have happen,” Judith Mayer said.

Police pinged Nikita Casap’s phone in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. Police pulled him over Saturday in a traffic stop in WaKeeney, Kansas, during which he was arrested and evidence was found.

The 17-year-old faces two felony counts of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and theft of movable property. He appeared at a virtual extradition hearing Monday in the district court of Trego County, Kansas. The magistrate judge gave the state of Wisconsin until March 15 to get him back to Waukesha.

While Nikita Casap is not charged for his parents’ deaths, his grandmother is struggling with the possibility of what may have happened.

“It’s very difficult to accept that Niki killed his mother and father. It just doesn’t make any sense,” Judith Mayer said.

A hearing is scheduled for March 17 to make sure the suspect is back in Wisconsin.
