DALLAS — North Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett walked out of President Trump’s address to Congress with other Democrats.
In a post to Instagram captioned “We WALKED OUTTA THE BS,” Crockett voiced her displeasure with President Trump’s speech and addressed why she walked out.
“He up there, he spewing all kinds of nonsense… and bull [expletive] let me just be real, and we wasn’t going to sit for that [expletive],” Crockett said. “If he had some sense, then maybe we would’ve been about that life, but y’all know he ain’t got no sense.”
Crockett was joined by several other Democratic congressmen and women, all wearing black clothes with various messages written on them. Crockett’s shirt read “unbought and unbossed” and featured a picture of late Congresswoman Shirley Chisolm, who was the first Black woman to be elected into Congress.
Other shirts read “resist” and “President Musk,” criticizing the billionaire’s role in the Trump administration.
“I absolutely wanted to show up and I absolutely wanted to resist,” Crockett said. “I didn’t want [President Trump] to feel like he could intimidate us out of our seats… No, these are our seats, we earned these seats.”
The congresswoman issued a press release following her walkout, saying in part “I walked out because I want the President and my constituents to know that I’m not going to sit here while you try to shut down the VA hospital in my district.”
Crockett has been vocal about President Trump’s sweeping cuts to federal spending. Ahead of his January attempt to pause all federal funding, Crockett publicly disavowed the move.

“We are going to fight him tooth and nail. We are going to combat all the lies, and we are going to continue to serve the people that even went out and elected him to their own dismay,” Rep. Crockett said.
