ABINGTON, Penn. (WPVI) – A quick-thinking Uber driver may have saved a Pennsylvania man’s life after he experienced a sudden medical emergency.
Just moments before paramedics attempted to save the man’s life, he was happy and chatting with his Uber driver, Taras Zvir.
“You could tell he was a really nice person,” Zvir said.
Zvir started driving for Uber last year as a side gig.
Last Tuesday morning, he picked up 41-year-old Justin Anderson, who was headed to a new job.
However, when they arrived, Anderson had a big emergency.
Zvir said he noticed Anderson was sweating.
“He was sweating pretty bad. I immediately was like, ‘Oh my God, are you OK?’ And he pointed like, ‘Give me a minute,’” Zvir said.
Doctors later discovered Anderson had suffered a brain hemorrhage, a condition that can quickly turn fatal.
Zvir had to think quickly.
“He started going in and out of consciousness, and then he just completely went unconscious,” Zvir said. “So I immediately picked up, called 911. I was able to run around, open the door, took him out of the car, laid him flat on the ground and I just started doing CPR.”
A photo captured the dramatic moment paramedics responded.
They rushed Anderson to the hospital where his mother said doctors discovered a large bleed on the right side of his brain.
Doctors said it was due to a condition he likely has had his whole life but never knew about.
Anderson had emergency surgery and is now recovering.
His mother believes that Zvir may have helped save Anderson’s life by being there and taking action right away.
The driver is also thankful and hopeful that his passenger will be OK.
“Hopefully, hopefully he recovers,” Zvir said.
Anderson’s family said he also happens to drive for Uber.
