WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Members of the U.S. House of Representatives launched an effort to punish Representative Al Green (D-Houston) after he heckled the president during an address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night.
Republican House members moved to censure Green. A censure is a formal reprimand that is adopted by the House in a majority vote.
“The presidential election of Nov. 5 was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades,” President Donald Trump said as he began his address.
“You have no mandate,” Green yelled, standing on the Democrat’s side of the chamber. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson warned Green against his behavior. Green continued shouting and shook his cane toward the dais.
Johnson called on the Sergeant at Arms to remove Green, and he was escorted out of the chamber.
