KYLE, Texas — The city of Kyle is booming, so much so that it is now reaching a point where it is hard to get in touch with the right division or department.
Meredith Walker has lived in Kyle for about three years.
“My experience before was you dial 311 and nothing would happen. And so then I’d be like, ‘Oh my gosh, what do I do?’ And I would end up getting my phone out and looking for just a switchboard number or something like that,” Walker said.
City leaders wanted to create a centralized system, a new non-emergency call center called Kyle 311. Joshua Chronley is the assistant director for administrative services.
“If you have a tree that’s down, water that you’ve noticed in your front yard, trash in the park, graffiti on a building, any of your concerns that relate to city services, we’d be happy to answer,” Chronley said.
While the app is not live yet, Chronley says users will be able to track how the city is addressing their requests.
“When you submit the ticket, the ticket will get sent to the correct department, and as soon as they begin working on that request you’ll receive an email or text notification, whatever you’ve signed up for, letting you know that we’ve started addressing your service issue,” Chronley said.
For Walker, this resource is a lifesaver, when she is unsure of what to do.
“I haven’t been sure exactly where to call because I don’t want to tie up 911, but I definitely need to alert somebody, so I’m really glad that there’s a number like that just for non-emergencies,” Walker said.
It is bringing more resources to a city that is demanding them.
Kyle 311 officially launches on Tuesday, March 11. This Saturday, everyone is invited to La Verde Park at 10 a.m. for the launch party where there will be demos of the software and agents there to help everyone sign up for the site.
You will be able to call, use an app or submit requests online.
