CHARLESTON, W.Va (WDTV) – A bill that will ban synthetic dyes in food in West Virginia passed through the legislature Wednesday.
House Bill 2354 will prohibit the sale of any food product in the state that includes the dyes Red 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2 and Green 3.
The bill passed through the Senate with a 31-2 vote in favor Wednesday and was previously passed through the House on February 28th. However, after the Senate amended the bill, it now goes back to the House for them to decide if they concur.
Once the House and Senate pass the same version of the bill, it will head to Governor Patrick Morrisey’s desk for his signature.
House Bill 2354 would ban food dyes in certain products from being sold in grocery stores and school meals.
